To obtain an apostille form their Client Service Center in Columbus. Please consider the following:

Considerations for notarized documents:
Must be notarized by a currently commissioned Ohio notary public, Please note that in the case the notary is an attorney with a commission that does not expire, then there is no need to obtain County Clerk certification and can be apostilled straight at the SOS.

The Ohio Secretary of State no longer requires notary signatures to be certified by the County Clerk before to obtaining an Apostille because now the Secretary of State has all notary signatures on record for verification.

In the past in order to authenticate notarized documents by a non-attorney notary the Ohio secretary of state required the County Clerk notary certification, traditionally the office of the Ohio Secretary of State was able to certify notary signatures issued by attorneys because their signatures were on record, however signatures by non-attorney notaries were not acceptable for authenticate because their signature were not on record

Considerations for vital records:
Birth and death Certificates must be certified copies issued and signed (facsimile) by the Registrar from the Ohio Department of Health with a raised/embossed seal. Should you need to request a certified copy of a birth or death certificate contact the Ohio Department of Health phone 614-466-2531, or the Department of Health or Vital Statistics at the county of birth

Considerations for marriage records: (licenses or certificates)
Must be certified copies with the signature of the judge and the seal of the probate court.
Should you need to request a new certified copy of your marriage records please contact the county probate court where the marriage was celebrated. Considerations for singe status can also be obtained at the county probate court.

Considerations for academic documents:
The school records issued by The Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, Case Western Reserve University, Kent State University, Bowling Green State University, Ohio University, University of Akron, Wright State University and Cleveland State University among others must be notarized. Please contact your school official, principal or University registrar and ask them to sign an affidavit before a notary public.
