Adoption Dossier

An adoption dossier is a collection of all of the documents required to legally adopt a child. These documents are often used to indicate that the adoptive parents are able to provide a stable and safe environment to raise a child. Some of the documents that are in an adoption dossier include:

• Adoption petition
• Birth certificates
• Certified marriage certificate
• Certified divorce decree (if applicable)
• Medical certificate – for both adoptive parents and any children living in the house
• Mental health form
• Employment letter
• Financial statement
• Copy of recent tax returns
• Proof of home ownership
• Copy of your passport
• Local police clearance
• Adoption home study
• Power of Attorney
• Guardian letter
• Letters of reference
• Copy of your United States Citizenship and Immigration Services immigration approval
• Family pictures
