To obtain an apostille from the office of Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky Secretary of State in Frankfort, follow these guidelines:

Please note that the Kentucky Secretary of State only apostilles documents originating in Kentucky.

Considerations for notarized documents:
Must be notarized by an actively commissioned Notary Public, with a certified signature from the County clerk
Must be authenticated by the County or Deputy Clerk.
Considerations for vital records:
Must be certified copies of birth, death or marriage certificates signed by the vital records office and the current State Registrar Paul F. Royce, form the Department of Health and Vital Statistics. (please see image below)
Must be authenticated by the County or Deputy Clerk.
Considerations for divorce documents:
Must be a certified copy a divorce decree issued by the court
Must be signed by a Judge and circuit or county clerk
Considerations for business documents:
Must be certified copies of articles of incorporation, amendments, mergers, dissolutions, or certificates of good standing.
Considerations for school records:
Transcripts and diplomas issued by the University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Western Kentucky University and Eastern Kentucky University among others must be signed by a notary public registered in the Commonwealth of Kentucky
The county clerk recorder must certify the notarization.
